How to prevent the cleanroom panel from being corroded and foamed in the VHP disinfection environment?

28 Oct, 2020

What is VHP?

VHP stands for vaporized hydrogen peroxide, an effective sterilization technology that utilizes hydrogen peroxide at room temperature to eliminate bacteria and spores, achieving complete decontamination.

Biological cleanrooms must comply with stringent cleanliness standards, requiring strict control over airborne dust particles and microbial levels. In cleanroom Grade B areas, including facilities for biological and blood products, the maximum allowable count for suspended particles is  0.5µm (micrometer), while planktonic bacteria is limited to 1cfu / m³ (1 colony per cubic meter).

Biological Cleanroom

To meet these standards, cleanroom environments require regular disinfection to manage airborne bacterial and microbial contamination, most commonly through VHP disinfection. Although VHP provides highly effective sterilization without leaving residue, a high concentration of H2O2 can corrode traditional color Steel Sheet panels. Furthermore, H2O2 acts as a powerful oxidizer, causing the surface of corroded color steel sheets to blister.

This occurs because H2O2 penetrates into the paint coating, decomposing into water and oxygen that expands and blisters the coating during temperature shifts. Applying thin coatings with poor density and micro-porosity frequently leads to blistering. While blistering does not directly corrode the underlying steel sheet, losing protective paint diminishes appearance and drastically shortens service life. Even more critical, surface blistering can downgrade the cleanroom cleanliness classification and compromise pharmaceutical manufacturing quality.

For facility operators, this poses a persistent and costly challenge.

To resolve this issue, intensive research and engineering efforts were undertaken, resulting in Endure® Steel Sheet being developed.

Unlike standard color Steel Sheet, Endure® steel sheet features a specialized, high-durability PVC surface layer that acts as a robust protective shield, effectively blocking the penetration of H2O2 to fundamentally resolve issues caused by H2O2 corrosive paint blisters.

 Endure® Cleanroom Panel

Through experimental comparison, Endure® steel sheet not only demonstrates superior resistance to H202 corrosion, but also delivers robust performance in specialized acid and alkali environments.

Therefore, in a VHP disinfection environment, choosing cleanroom panels made of Endure® steel sheet will protect your cleanroom from the risks and challenges of color steel sheet blistering.

Choose Endure® to resolve all these problems effectively.
